Shauna New

Shauna is a psychotherapist based in Cheltenham, offering a safe, confidential space for adults and young people over 18 to pause, reflect, and explore life’s challenges. She integrates person-centred and psychodynamic approaches, complemented by other techniques, to support clients with anxiety, stress, grief, identity, self-esteem, and burnout. Therapy with Shauna is collaborative: the relationship itself is central to growth, helping clients deepen self-understanding, strengthen self-compassion, and work toward meaningful, lasting change. Whatever challenges or questions you bring—big or small—can become opportunities to foster understanding, gain clarity, and strengthen your resilience.

Sessions are offered face-to-face in Cheltenham, online, or outdoors through walk-and-talk therapy, bringing the grounding influence of nature into your therapeutic work. Sessions last up to 60 minutes at a rate of £60, with frequency and format tailored to each client’s needs. Shauna welcomes clients from all backgrounds and is committed to creating a space where everyone feels respected, supported, and understood. She recognises that identity—including religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, disability, politics, and socioeconomic status—shapes experiences, and she continually develops an anti-racist and GSRD-affirming practice to provide safe, inclusive therapy.

Shauna trained in the United States, completing a Master of Social Work (MSW) with a clinical focus on psychotherapy at Smith College, a programme internationally recognised for its psychodynamic approach. She gained supervised experience supporting teenagers, adults, and older adults in education, care homes, and community settings. Since relocating to the UK, she has worked with local charities and community projects, including Footsteps Counselling and Care and Essential Space CIC, supporting clients through loss, trauma, identity exploration, and life transitions.

She engages in ongoing professional development and is registered with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), ensuring professional standards are met while bringing a cross-cultural perspective.
